ADVICE TO A FRIEND --- AMBITION

Ambition is a strong desire to become great or to cherish higher hopes for improving oneself in future. It bestows life, speed and strength to a work. The progress, prosperity and achievement of men are the outcome of this feeling.

Ambition is good and desirable when it aims at doing good to mankind or to relieve the distress of men and animals. But when a man desires to possess it to enrich himself by a hook or by crook, or secure for himself an advantageous place or position only to meet his selfish ends, or to take revenge on others being in a superior position, is a perverted ambition. It is better to have no ambition rather than having such self-cent red ambition which is capable of doing infinite harm to mankind.
