As all animals have physical organs, so also they have some sense feelings, consciousness, wish or memory, all of which may be termed in one word as mind. Man is distinguished from other animals, because he is endowed with a powerful mind. Physically he is not remarkably strong, but his thinking and inventive mind, his power of judgment and his capacity to distinguish right from wrong, have led him to occupy the leading position on earth, although he has been sent much later than the other created beings on the earth.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND --- HONESTY

                                                                     Chapter – ll

Honesty means to remain true and constant to one’s own duty. This is such a precious gem that its price and wait is more than all the riches, fame and power on earth. It associates intimately with truth; so it commands love and respect from all sections of people. Because the aim and object of mankind, whether through art or science, culture and tradition or custom and habits is only to attain “truth”, and when a man is honest he is not far away from truth.
Honesty produces sincerity, faithfulness, piety and many other virtuous qualities. It stands above wants and is a reward in itself. It is the strong pillar on which rests the frame-work of moral kingdom. You deposit your money in a bank, submit your disputes before a judge, put your children under the car for a tour, take medical advice or drug from a doctor; and why? It is only because they are expert in their respective profession? Certainly not, you want them to be honest first; then you proceed to consider their speciality or ability.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND --- STUDY

                                        Chapter –II

Study

Your study is of great importance to you both at present and in future. The proverb runs, “As you sow, so you reap”. The future of a man is generally shaped and determined by his present action. The beginning of every noble action is generally accompanied by pain , toil and tear while its achievement at the end is full of pleasure, peace, comfort and glory. It is through study alone that you can enter into the great and master minds of all ages and countries. It is also the best means to avail the company of the wisest and the best. The field of study is vast like boundless ocean. You are to swim across it like a bold sailor with full resource of your power and merit. Therefore, acquire the habit of study from an early age.
Let your study enjoy an atmosphere of calm and solitude as this is almost like a place of worship where the great and noble souls are silently waiting. You should, therefore, devote yourself in study with patience and perseverance. Sink deep into your studies to extract the essence. If any subject appears dry and difficult, go through it repeatedly until you grasp it.  In this way you will develop a grasping power which would help you to understand and enjoy the subject which was so long difficult and uninteresting to you.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND --- FAITH

Faith

Faith is unreserved confidence, trust or belief in the existence of something. Faith is a wide term extending millions of gradual steps – starting from blind belief and ending in the full realization of a thing. Look to the creation. What is the best of the creations? If the answer is Man, then the question arises – how is he so? It is because of having responsibility for exploring ways and means in the path of faith.

Faith is that which directs our activities. We undertake a good work, because we have faith that it will yield good and we shun an evil because it will do us harm.
