ADVICE TO A FRIEND — SMOKING

Smoking is an ugly habit,——- yet a very popular one now- a- days. If you are addicted to this habit once, it will be very difficult for you to get rid of it; since habit is sometimes stronger than nature. The root of this habit, if for sometimes fed upon, cannot be removed however destructive a weapon, may be used against it. This habit generally leads a man going to the extreme where it makes him deplore for his carelessness in the past.
Smoking is harmful to the human system. For experimental shake, just take a puff of smoke in your mouth and push it through a piece of clean and white cloth. What do you see? Has not the smoke mildly burnt the threads of the cloth through which it managed to escape? And what will be the effect of similar experiment on human tissues? —– some of which are finer and thinner than spider’s threads?
The lungs by frequent pressure of smoke become black and  a thin coating on the surface of the lungs is formed, which is distinctly visible through X-Rays. The smoke makes the eye-sight weaker, the pulse-beat faster and the power of blood weaker. The freshness of the brain is ebbed away and a man’s thinking power runs short.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND — SELFISHNESS

Selfishness is one of the worst fillings of human nature. Different fillings in human mind originate from either love or greed. Selfishness generally grows for one to love, lack of broad outlook and influence of greed. Man is, as we see, a social being and essentially stands in need of a society which renders him help, guidance and encouragement and he in his tern offers sympathy, sacrifice and help to it- without which the society cannot exist. Except the saint and savage everybody is linked up with a society. It is the social origination which satisfies the needs of different classes of people who are tied with it. History reveals that the growth and progress of an idle society is not possible if there prevails selfishness amongst its members. It is also observed that the more selfless the citizens are, the more advanced the nation is, and more prosperous is the country.
If we look towards Nature, we find that there is no place of selfishness in it. The cow gives milk, the tree bears fruit and casts shadow, the flower bloom, the sun shines, the wind blows not for themselves but entirely for the benefits of others. The countless manifestations of God bear witness that there is no place of selfishness even in mute Nature. Every minute atom though working in its own sphere, yet co-operating with the rest would for the fulfillment of the Universal plan.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND ---------- WINE

Wine like opium apowerful intoxicating substance claims a very wide area for its use. When taken in excess, a man may die then and there.

Many a dangerous and incurable disease springs forth from drinking. This habit is generally acquired through the influence of bad company whose requests and persuasions compel one to have a taste of it. Several repetitions of such compliance whether under request or under pressure of influence, make one bold to have a direct contact with the thing and thus one gradually gets the habit formed.

The first action of wine is to attack and injure the liver which plays a vital role in the human system. No liquor in free from alcohol and alcohol has pernicious effect on stomach. As soon as the alcohol is pushed inside the stomach, the latter tries to belch it up due to its excessive strength of fermentation. That is why the beginners experience vomiting or nauseous sensation at their primary stage. But a drunken man forcibly prevents it from coming out of his stomach by providing a cover of other food articles, for fear of losing its action. As a result, the liquor fails to get its exit and goes back to harm this important organ. Loss of appetite and symptoms of indigestion are observed at the first stage, then many other dangerous effects appear by and by from its frequent use.

 Impatience

Impatience shunts one from patience or endurance which is slowly the keynote to success. Life is full of wants and sufferings; but being impatient who can get rid of them? Rather, a man of patience, sober and clam by nature meets his demands more rightly and quickly, or is able to tackle a difficult situation more efficiently than a man of impatient habits. Most of us are aware that behind every achievement there is a history of patience and perseverance.

Impatience generally excites the mind at the sight of some impending dangers, difficulty, loss, wants etc.  A wise and competent man faces those unpleasant situations calmly; because he is well aware that the presence of impatience in the mind would increase the calamity actually touches him.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND ----TEMPTATION

Temptation

There are certainunruly feelings in of which temptation is the strongest one. It always tries to lead a man towards selfishness. When grown unmanageable it drags one’s mind from the original seat of virtue and leads one to move in wilderness ----- in the region of false, illegal or uncertain hopes. Temptation in a mind acts like a piece of iron near some powerful magnet. It aims and jumps on an object from which it cannot free itself.
Temptation alone is sufficient to destroy the moral excellence of man. It misleads an individual or a nation by making the individual or the nation mad to process the belongings of others. It is also responsible for many a catastrophe, devastation, blood-shed, disaster, humiliation and danger which at times claim a heavy tool of human life and property. It also threatens the very existence of many other species --- essential for maintaining nature’s balance.
