ADVICE TO A FRIEND — TEA

There is a saying, of course, I am not sure whether it is based on experimental method that if about two pounds of tea leaves are offered to a horse of prodigious strength, the horse would die soon. But in spite of such warning, tea has come to the forefront of all human consumption. Now-a-days, tea has occupied a leading position in all countries of hot and moist climate. It has free entrance in a king’s place, in a warriors camp, in a states man’s chamber and is also entertained in a peasant’s hut. Should we then place it in the category of food——– wholesome food, when loved and welcomed by people of all places and position without examining its contents—- that how much vitamin or body building ingredient it possess? Let us suppose sending some quantity of pure tea juice to a laboratory for analysis.
As far as we can predict, the report would convey that vitamin of any kind in it is absent, rather some injurious elements are present —– that cannot be altogether overlooked. Men who are not yet accustomed to this habit, ( such person are in a hopeless minority ) will surely realize from its initial taste that it destroys appetite, sleep and causes indigestion, headache or uneasiness. Some may put an excuse that milk and sugar are added in it to make it harmless and palatable. Should they also hold that a drop of poison will become harmless if added with some quantity of milk and sugar? The facts are, ——as one can suppose, for having light intoxication of mild excitement, tea is generally taken.
