ADVICE TO A FRIEND — EVILS IN TRADE

The majority of human transactions are made through trade which is essential for the benefit of mankind. So, a few words may be said on this subject. It is well known to you that trade and commerce mould the character of the people to a great extent. Almost all people are directly or indirectly connected with it. Some are buyers, some sellers, some producers and some consumers. The human life is intended to do something with somebody. So an individual or a nation gets ample opportunity for attaining virtuous qualities such as honesty, truthfulness, sincerity and the likes through trade. A trade, when conducted with a good motive is a source of benefit and service to mankind. It is again trade that stimulates energy in men and leads them to discoveries and inventions. The merchandise or production of a country reveals to a great extent the manners, custom, character and behavior of the people who live in it and particularly the people who deal with the things.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND — GAMBLING

In spite of being fully aware of the Divine Decree pronounced of man, ‘In the sweat of thy brow thou halt earn thy bread,’ he could not fully keep his faith in this saying. He is not fully satisfied with his own honest earning, but hankers after getting something big without toil and trouble. If anything accidentally comes to his possession he calls it the gift of fortune. He forgets that things obtained without labour ie,, through luck or by chance cannot give him as real pleasure as do those gained through honest labour.  A man who is gifted with such fortune, considers himself as a more trustee and not the real owner of the things. He doubts that the gifts are either more or less than he actually deserves. The trail of luck in whatever form is full of risk and uncertainty.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND — BETTING

With the progress of modern civilization, our life is becoming more and more complex. Our whole life became a feverish pursuit after money, or some martial gain to satisfy our varied wants. We know no rest, no peace of mind to have something by chance. Hence, there is lack of fellow feelings in us. One tries to snatch away the pocket of other by devising some means. One of such devices is betting which has become a kind of amusement now-a-days.
In a betting, a man loses his balance, over estimates his power of strength and becomes almost mad for victory. It has become a fashion to respond quickly to a challenge in a bet. Silence to such challenges is feared to be termed cowardice. In my opinion, one’s lack of such courage is one’s moral gain.

ADVICE TO A FRIEND — TEA

There is a saying, of course, I am not sure whether it is based on experimental method that if about two pounds of tea leaves are offered to a horse of prodigious strength, the horse would die soon. But in spite of such warning, tea has come to the forefront of all human consumption. Now-a-days, tea has occupied a leading position in all countries of hot and moist climate. It has free entrance in a king’s place, in a warriors camp, in a states man’s chamber and is also entertained in a peasant’s hut. Should we then place it in the category of food——– wholesome food, when loved and welcomed by people of all places and position without examining its contents—- that how much vitamin or body building ingredient it possess? Let us suppose sending some quantity of pure tea juice to a laboratory for analysis.
As far as we can predict, the report would convey that vitamin of any kind in it is absent, rather some injurious elements are present —– that cannot be altogether overlooked. Men who are not yet accustomed to this habit, ( such person are in a hopeless minority ) will surely realize from its initial taste that it destroys appetite, sleep and causes indigestion, headache or uneasiness. Some may put an excuse that milk and sugar are added in it to make it harmless and palatable. Should they also hold that a drop of poison will become harmless if added with some quantity of milk and sugar? The facts are, ——as one can suppose, for having light intoxication of mild excitement, tea is generally taken.
